Celebrities

Sometimes very good-looking actors will talk about wishing they were less good-looking because it would allow them to play a wider range of roles. Sometimes they will express relief as they enter middle age; without everyone salivating over them all of the time, they can actually put time and effort into acting, which is probably what most of them really like doing in the first place.

Usually the reaction to this sentiment (I mean from people who aren’t famous) is, “Oh, yeah, your life is SOOOOO hard,” but I don’t think it takes tons of empathy to think that situation through and say, instead, “Yeah, that’s probably pretty hard.” I mean have you ever seen one of those NYT photographs from a movie awards show that gets the camera crowds in the frame along with the actor? That looks really scary.

There’s probably not a good way to understand how strange that kind of life is. The people who do understand have probably erected big big psychological barricades that make it impossible for them to actually discuss it. I mean in an interesting way. Not a Megan-Fox-understands-her-own-image way.
