Nearly everything I’ve heard about Avatar had this structure: “Well the dialogue and plotting and nature-worship can be a little silly, but it is such a brain-scramble-utionizing experience that I will call it the best movie of the last ten years.” I saw is this afternoon, and for the sake of argument I would like to reverse that formula:

Zizek isn’t nearly as bad a writer as people say he is. Also it seems like leftists are going to realize that the extent to which they’re unsatisfied with Obama is just the extent to which they’re unsatisfied with American liberalism as such. Nobody before him (at least in the last few decades) has instantiated what today’s liberalism is so clearly.
